GROUP EXECUTIVE:\nTELEVISION\n\n5 YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT POSITION.\n

 

Reporting to the Chief Operations Office the Group Executive is responsible for the development of a strategic and competitive position for SABC Television and ensure optimal delivery of programmes aligned to market needs, target audiences and SABC mandate requirements.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  Develop and monitor the implementation of the Television Strategy to ensure alignment to SABC Mandate as well as Legislation and Policies. Monitor and ensure effective scheduling across SABC‘s Television channels to position the organisation as the leading brand amongst target audiences. Provide strategic direction to the Senior Management Team in the implementation of Divisional strategy and goals. Develop and review a Television Operating Model in line with broader organisational business objectives. Monitor to ensure synergy and alignment between the platforms in terms of scheduling and programming. Conduct analysis of television broadcasting performance, competitors, regulatory mandate and market trends. Ensure the attainment of the Divisional revenue targets. Oversee divisional operational expenditure against approved budget and introduce corrective measures to ensure financial discipline and accountability Set guidelines on optimal fund distribution/ allocation in accordance with the organisational budget constraints and strategic/ operational requirements. High-level review of all projects to evaluate progress. Manage assets in accordance with organisational Asset Management Policy. Ensure the efficient management of content houses, programme acceptance, internal production and industry development. Ensure the efficient delivery of programming across the value chain from acquiring to final broadcast. Ensure management of operations to ensure financial sustainability of the platforms. Ensure relevant, compelling and competitive content is acquired. Develop and Present business case to Board to obtain approval of funds to acquire content in line with Organisation policies and guidelines. Ensure maintenance of up-to-date knowledge of competitors’ schedules and be aware of competing programme launches and major competitive initiatives. Explore potential weaknesses in the schedules of competitors. Recommend remedial action if programmes/series fail to achieve their potential. Provide leadership when schedules should be interrupted i.e. for special broadcasts. Develop and review internal control measures to ensure good governance. Oversee the management of procurement risks for Content acquisition to protect organisational integrity, create value, prevent financial loss and ensure compliance with applicable policies and legislations.  Build and maintain relationship with relevant External stakeholders i.e. Production Houses, ICASA, relevant industry role players etc. Build and ensure cross functional communication between Commercial Enterprises, News, SABC Sport, Radio etc.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Understanding of Content Production Understanding of the positioning of the different platforms Financial management and reporting Business planning and acumen PFMA and relevant national treasury regulations Strategic management Management information systems Understanding of the different role players within the broadcasting landscape Project management Understanding of applicable legislative frameworks and regulations

 

Education and Experience:   Master’s Degree in broadcasting / Communication or equivalent qualifications 10 Years Television broadcasting experience of which 5 years should be on General Management Level.
